Hurricane Season & Campaign Signs: Weatherproofing for Florida

Florida's 2026 races run straight through storm season — build your signs for it.

Florida's election season overlaps hurricane season, and a summer of afternoon downpours, high wind and brutal UV is hard on cheap signage. Faded, warped or flattened signs make a campaign look neglected. Here's how to choose and place materials that survive a Florida storm season standing and legible.

Material Is Everything

The reason campaigns everywhere use 4mm corrugated plastic (coroplast) is that it shrugs off water — it doesn't absorb, warp or disintegrate the way cardboard or paper does. Paired with UV-stable inks, a coroplast sign holds its color and shape through months of sun and rain. Our yard signs are printed on weatherproof coroplast built for exactly this.

Wind Is the Real Enemy

  • Orient the flutes correctly — coroplast is more rigid along one axis; signs hold up better when the H-frame runs with the ribs
  • Double-stake exposed signs — a second frame or ground stake keeps big signs from folding in gusts
  • Lower is steadier — a sign planted firm and low takes wind better than one riding high on a thin post
Pro Tip When a named storm is forecast, pull your most visible signs a day ahead and re-plant after. It's far cheaper to store and redeploy signs than to reprint a whole batch scattered across the district by 60 mph wind.

Banners Need Airflow

Solid vinyl banners act like sails in high wind and tear at the grommets. For exposed fence lines, mesh banners let wind pass through and survive gusts that shred solid vinyl. Reserve solid vinyl for sheltered spots and events.

Keep a Storm Reserve

Order 10–15% extra of your yard signs and keep them boxed. After a storm rolls through, you can re-cover the district in a day instead of waiting on a reprint during peak-season turnaround. Weatherproofing is half materials, half having spares ready.
